Oscar Pritchard relies on Reliance Medical Transport to bring him to and from his medical appointments at the Hampton VA Medical Center.

The 72-year-old Norfolk resident and Army veteran is on oxygen 24 hours a day, seven days a week and uses a powered wheelchair to get around.

“I would recommend them to anybody,” Pritchard said. “They are highly professional and whenever I have an appointment, they’ve been Johnny-on-the-spot.”

Reliance is a veteran-owned company that provides medical ground transportation services within a 300-mile radius. The paramedics and emergency medical technicians on staff primarily focus on non-emergent needs, including taking patients to and from dialysis, chemotherapy, scheduled surgeries, wound care and hospice.

Dr. Rene Moncion, an emergency medicine physician and former naval officer, started the company in 2014 with two ambulances out of a church parking lot in Virginia Beach. Moncion said in a news release that he built the company with a focus on timeliness, personalized care and professionalism with an emphasis on serving the military veteran population.
