Becoming an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is a rewarding career path for those who wish to make a difference in people’s lives during times of crisis. If you’re considering a career as an EMT, here are the requirements to reach your goal:

  • Physical and Mental Fitness: EMTs are often required to lift heavy loads, perform physically strenuous tasks, and make split-second decisions in stressful situations. It’s crucial to maintain your physical and mental fitness through regular exercise and stress management.
  • CPR Certification: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training focuses on life-saving techniques for restoring breathing and circulation in emergency situations. Ensure you complete a CPR certification course approved by the American Heart Association (AHA) or a similar recognized organization before beginning your EMT course
  • EMT Course Completion: Enroll in a state-approved EMT training program. These programs are typically offered at community colleges, technical schools, or specialized training centers. The program duration can vary, but it usually ranges from a few months to a year, depending on the level of EMT certification you are pursuing.
  • Clean Background Check: You will be required to pass a criminal background check to ensure the safety and well-being of patients.
  • National Registry Exam: Passing the NREMT exam demonstrates that an EMT candidate has met the national standards for competency and is qualified to practice as an EMT in the United States. (Congratulations! You did it!)
  • Last but not least… Once the above are completed, call Reliance Medical Transport! We’re always looking to add knowledgeable EMTs to our growing team.

Becoming an EMT is just the start to a rewarding and successful career. EMTs make a significant impact on people’s lives, providing critical care and support when they need it most.
